Our Story

Offscript is a drama therapy board game that helps children, youth, and adults build empathy, communication and emotional awareness through character role play. By blending improvisation with realistic, everyday social scenarios, Offscript provides a safe and creative space for connection and self-expression in social groups, schools, therapy settings, children's homes, and educational programs.

How does the game work?

Players draw scenario cards that present everyday challenges — such as misunderstandings with friends, teamwork conflicts, or moments of self-doubt — and respond in character as one of several personality archetypes, like “The Perfectionist” or “The People Pleaser.

Step by Step

1 /Pick a Character

Perfectionist: Sets impossibly high standards, avoids failure, and resists compromise.

People Pleaser: Avoids conflict, always says “yes,” puts others before themselves.

Overthinker: Second-guesses everything and struggles to make decisions.

Caregiver: Sacrifices personal needs to care for others.

Competitor: Needs to win or be the best; often compares with others.

Repressor: Hides emotions and avoids vulnerability, saying “I’m fine” even when not.

Self-Critic: Constantly doubts themselves and feels never good enough.

Clown: Uses humor to deflect serious emotions or conversations.

Pessimist: Always expects things to go wrong.

Skeptic: Questions everything; mistrusts others as a form of self-protection.

Rebel: Challenges rules and authority, values freedom of expression.

Chameleon: Adapts to different groups but feels unsure of their true self.

Charmer: Likable and persuasive, wins people over easily but rarely opens up.

Golden One: Appears perfect in every way but feels pressured to maintain that image.

2 / Roll Dice & Respond to Prompt

Depending on which space you land on, draw either an Act Card or a Wildcard. Respond to the prompt as your character would.

3 / Guess!

If you land on a Palm, choose one player and guess their character based on how they’ve responded so far.

4 / Reflection (Optional)

Which character felt most like you — and why?

Why do you think your character acted that way? What emotions or fears might have influenced their response?

What patterns did we notice across different characters? Were there any similarities in how they reacted or what they needed?
